Anchored at full draw, my heart hammered as the giant bull rhino faced us head-on at 15 yards. There was nothing I could do, even though my professional hunter hissed with concern. "Just turn to the side!" The thought screamed silently in my mind as sweat beaded my brow.
Then, it happened, the old bull stepped forward and to the side revealing an opening to the rear portion of his front shoulder. And as I squeezed the release, I flashed back decades to when I had last been a "bowhunter."
Thanks to Alpine Archery, I arrowed that giant bull rhino in South Africa in 2008 and rekindled a love of bowhunting lost to a focus on my muzzleloading quests across the planet. At the practice range leading up to that rhino hunt, I stood in awe at the incredible performance of these new bows from Alpine. Exceptional accuracy. Amazingly smooth-shooting. Deadly power, and a beauty unique to bowhunting.

In the field, at full draw, against a potentially dangerous rhino, I, a bowhunting greenhorn once again, felt a surprising confidence. The bow inspired it, and Alpine Archery launched me hopelessly back into the world of bowhunting. Sure, I will always be a muzzleloader hunter. But I am a bowhunter again.
